Namiseom Island is 63 km away from Seoul in the direction of Chuncheon, and is famous for its beautiful tree lined roads.  The island is 30 minutes away from Chuncheon and an hour away from suburbs of Seoul. Since it is not far from Seoul, many couples and families come to visit.  A special feature of Namiseom Island is that there are no telephone poles. This is because all electric wires were built underground to keep the natural feeling of the landscape. The complex is 553,560 square yards with chestnut trees and poplar trees around the isle.

The Garden of the Morning Calm
is where the beauty of Korea has been planted into a garden.  The arboretum opened in 1996 through the efforts of horticulture professor Han Sang-Kyeong of the Sayuk University, with the dream of creating a uniquely Korean garden known for its curves and balance. ¡°Achim Goyo (Morning Calm)¡± comes from the Indian poet Tagore, praising Korea as the country of the morning calm.  The naming emphasizes the importance put on creating a uniquely Korean beauty in the garden. The arboretum is composed of 10 theme-based gardens.  About 1,000 different kinds of flowers and plants greet their visitors in each season, and it was used as the background for the movie ¡°Pyeonji¡± (Letter).

Bongeunsa Temple
Once known as Gyeonseongsa Temple, Bongeunsa Temple is located to the north of COEX building, and was constructed in the 10th year of Shilla King Weongseong¡¯s reign (794). In 1498, Queen Jeonghyeon refurbished Gyeonseongsa Temple at the east of King Seongjong¡¯s royal mausoleum and renamed the temple as Bongeunsa.

Taekwondo Cultural Performance
Korea¡¯s Taekwondo is an internationally known martial arts being taught in 181 countries worldwide, and has a following of over 70,000,000. Leeum, overlooking Hangang River, is located at Namsan.  Leeum is made up of three themes, the past, present, and future arts and culture. Samsung Leeum¡¯s Museum 1 was designed by the Swiss architect Mario Botta with Korea¡¯s traditional porcelain as its motif.  The French architect Jean Nouvel, with progressive technology and materials, designed Museum 2, housing contemporary art, and the Child Education & Culture Center was designed by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. Each of the three buildings reflects the individuality of its designers.  With the use of diverse materials and progressive technology, the buildings themselves are works of art.  Mario Bottas utilizes solid forms of terracotta, symbolizing earth and fire, to express the beauty of Korea¡¯s porcelain in Museum 1.  Jean Nouvels is the world¡¯s first to use rusted steel and glass in Museum 2.  Rem Koolhaas¡¯ black concrete structure creates abstract space and reflects his futuristic architectural design.

The musical JUMP is a non-verbal performance that is based on the traditional movements of taekwondo, a Korean form of martial arts. The performance has been receiving great reviews and earned the top box office award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2005.

Also called as Mt. Soraksan and Mt. Seolbongsan, the mountains were named Seorak because the snow would not melt for a long period of time and its rocks stay white like snow.  In November 1965, the Seoraksan Mountains district was designated as a Natural Monument preservation area.
Afterwards in December 1973, it was designated as park preservation area, and in August 1982, as a Biosphere Preservation District by UNESCO.
The park is spread about in 4 cities and counties, in Sokcho, Inje, Goseong and Yangyang.  Featuring the highest peak Daecheongbong, the east side is called OeSeorak and the west is called NaeSeorak, which is divided again into North NaeSeorak and South NaeSeorak.  North NaeSeorak is composed of Bukcheon stream, which flows to Ingyecheon stream and Baekdamcheon stream.  There are numerous valleys in NaeSeorak.
